The Structural Heart Program at Sentara Heart Hospital works with each patient individually to evaluate and create a personalized treatment plan by a team of cardiothoracic surgeons and interventional cardiologists. We specialize in advanced transcatheter valve procedures including TAVR and MitraClip. We also have a special expertise in congenital and other structural heart defects and device therapy for stroke risk reduction in patients with atrial fibrillation.
Performing more than 900 transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures, the high-volume center specializes in other transcatheter therapies including percutaneous aortic and mitral balloon valvuloplasties, percutaneous mitral valve repair (MitraClip), WATCHMAN left atrial appendage closure device, PARACHUTE device for ischemic heart failure, repair of atrial septal defects and ventricular septal defects, as well as paravalvular leak closure.
