Chapters Transcript Video Provider Profile - Kristi Kratovil, MD Meet Kristina Kratovil, M.D., Sentara Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions. So my name's Kristi crowd of Ill. I work at Santerre, a comprehensive weight loss center, as the Barry attrition and medical director for the medical weight loss program. You're Patrick Medicine or obesity medicine, also known as weight loss. Medicine encompasses a lot of different areas. Hopefully, we'll be able to be seeing a younger population. But primarily we're seeing people over the age of 18 who suffer from obesity or overweight. The opportunity came up, and I jumped at the chance to able to dio bariatric medicine because it's something that was always an interest of mine. Ever since my days in the Navy and I wanted Thio develop my own obesity medicine program when I was doing private practice and I did, and when this came about that there was a very attrition spot available, I thought that was pretty amazing, and I couldn't let that slip through my fingers, so I took it. Uh huh. I have a very patient centered approach. I see. I see patient care is a collaboration. My goals may differ from the patient's goals in the beginning when we first meet, but my aim is to have a tailor. Our program so that it will meet the individual needs of each patient. And so again, their weight loss journey will be successful. We can't just cookie cutter it. Actually, that's one of my areas of interest in very ah, Trick Medicine is working with the bariatric surgeons because it's very rare that you have a medical weight loss program and a surgical practice in this housed in the same, uh, building. So we're very lucky to have that. I mean, we're one of the very few in the nation, so my goal isn't necessarily to. To get someone to surgery or keep them from surgery is to find out what's the best choice for that individual. And I like to work with the post bariatric surgery population. Whether it be a person who has super morbid obesity, who has to start with a gastric sleeve eventually will hopefully get a gastric bypass. But we have to get them to a certain weight. I'll work with that population. I'll also work with the population who maybe have weight recidivism. So they've gained weight back. They had their surgery. They had their sleeve a few years ago. Now we've gained some back in the approach to that is a little bit different than someone who has never had the surgery. And then there are people who, for various reasons, can't have the surgery, um, in whether they want it or not, It's just there are other cool mobility's that won't allow it. And so, working with that population, that approach is, you know, the also the mainstay of our program. Well, we, you know, we do prescribe medications here. There are a lot of medications that have been on the market that have been off the market. People remember things like Finn, Finn and Bell Vic, and those are no longer available. So I know that sometimes primary care providers and other health care providers just aren't necessarily comfortable with ease. But we are able to prescribe the GLP one. R eso things Lycos M pickin Victoza um, sex send A are working very well in weight loss medicine, Um, and also in that post bariatric surgery population for a lot of different reasons. But there's a kind of a cool device that's coming out. It's called planete, and it's a, um it's a capsule that people will take, and I'll take it before lunch and dinner. I think they'll take, like three, and they have hydrogel particles in them that when they're taken and ingested, they expand. When they're mixed with food and with water, they expand toe over like 100 times their weight. It acts to create a feeling of satiety and fullness without having to have a medication or surgery or what have you? What's neat about it is we have so many patients who are so sick, Um, that come in here I mean, patients who have, you know, are on dialysis, who need transplant patients who are heart failure, who just can't take any other medications or can't or won't be able to survive a surgery. So this type of non invasive, uh, Orel device or Orel supplement device really is what they're calling it will kind of really change things up for us. It's a super novel treatment. So right now patients could go to that website and I guess do a some sort of telemedicine and have access to it. But hopefully later in the year, um, it will be available on the market for all health care providers. So I'm looking forward to that one Published January 26, 2021 Created by Related Presenters Kristina Kratovil, MD Sentara Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions View full profile
